Alabama Grief Support Services
comfort, compassion, guidance, hope

Everyone knows that grief hurts. It impacts families, neighborhoods, workplaces, and communities. Individuals experience shock, denial, anger, and the inability to function when "stuck" in their grief. Alabama Grief Support Services exists to make a positive difference in assisting individuals to rebuild their lives after losing a loved one.

Each year, one in three Americans loses a family member. The call for grief services increases by the day, and in order for us to continue the free services we offer to all participants, we must depend on donations from our alumni and friends who know the value of the work that we do. Grief support is more than just a couple meetings and counseling sessions for those grieving. It is an extended process whereby we seek to facilitate the grieving of those who had lost loved ones and help them move toward hope for the future.

We are here to offer help to those who have lost loved ones. All our services are given free of charge. Whether it be through a group, individual consulation, workshops, seminars, we are here to serve in the area of grief support and grief education. Please contact us (205-870-0336) if you have a grief need or would like to refer someone to our services.

If you are inclined to make a donation to our work, you can click on the donation button on the left and follow the instructions. Your gift will make a positive difference in many peoples' lives in the days to come. We thank you for your support.

Testimonials

"One of the qualities that makes this organization unique is the large number of volunteers who have made long-term commitments to its mission. We have more than 80 volunteers who are graduates of the program. Some serve on our board, some as group volunteers, some provide meals, and some work on special projects such as our Holiday Help Seminar. They understand how important and life-changing this work can be for those who are grieving."

Vaughn Stough
Alumnus of Alabama Grief

"In December 2007 my life, as I'd known it for 36 years, came to an abrupt end. My beloved husband, Andy, suffered a heart attack and died right before my eyes. I was devastated, wondering where to turn and how to make the pain stop.

A dear friend brought information about Alabama Grief Support Services. Their program had helped him several years before when his wife had passed away. It was as if I had been thrown a "lifeline".

The meetings led by director Trudy Tharpe, and a group of recently widowed volunteers, helped me realize that life does go on and I could be happy again. I will be forever indebted to Alabama Grief Support Services."
